3D Printing

3D Printers

Some of our learning materials benefit from the use of a 3D printer. Most printers will be suitable for the tasks covered in ClassAct II however the following criteria will need to be met:

  • Compatible with STL files (for tasks where sample files are provided)
  • Able to print in a suitable material such as ABS plastic.
SETTINGS FOR PRINTING 3D MOLDS

The following settings are based on a Flashforge Dreamer 3D printer, you may need to adapt these settings slightly to suit your particular model.

General

  • Layer height = 0.14 mm
  • First layer height = 0.21 mm
  • Base speed = 60 mm/s
  • Extruder temperature = 230
  • Platform temperature = 110

Perimeter (outside surface)

  • Perimeters/shell count = 6
  • Perimeter print speed = 50 % of base speed

Infill (filling inside object)

  • Top solid layers = 6
  • Bottom solid layers = 2
  • Fill density = 50%
  • Fill pattern = Hexagon
  • Overlap perimeter = 70%
  • Solid layer print speed = 50% of base speed

Advanced

  • Extrusion ratio = 110%
